The Puzzler is a jigsaw puzzle on the computer. It allows you to select a puzzle, select the complexity of the puzzle, and then put the puzzle together by exchanging pieces.
Puzzler Requirements:
The Puzzler requires at least System 7.0, QuickTime and Color QuickDraw. Any size monitor will do, but I suggest a 13"+ monitor for optimum viewing. All pictures included with the Puzzler at the moment look best in 256+ colours.
Puzzler Menus:
As you start up the Puzzler, you should see a window asking you to choose a puzzle from the puzzler menu.The puzzle menu is a hierarchical menu built into the puzzler menu, and as you select "puzzle", a list of puzzles should appear.
If you pick a puzzle, your chosen puzzle will come up onto the main screen, divided into 25 pieces, which is the default value. If you'd like to change the number of pieces, you have to choose the "Gridsize..." option from the menu.
To change the number of pieces, select two numbers, that when multiplied together, equal less than 201, and put them into the columns and rows edit boxes.
The other functions of the Puzzler menu allow you to get rid of the small help window, and turn off the sound.
The Edit menu is nonfunctional for the Puzzler and is dimmed. It is there for the use of desk accessories when they are active.
The File menu allows you to open "PuzFiles", create PuzFiles and to quit the Puzzler.
How to Play the Puzzler:
To finish a puzzle in the Puzzler, all the pieces must be put in the correct order. To do this, the player selects a piece, and "drags" it over top of another piece. When the player releases the button, the two pieces will exchange places. After all the pieces have been put in the correct order, the player will hear a cheering sound(if the sound is on), and will advance to the next puzzle.
PuzFiles:
Please use PICT files now for your Puzzles. Puzzler will still “barely” support it’s old PuzFile format, and now prefers PICT files like 99.9% of all other Mac applications.
Special Notes That Everyone Should Read:
-Any Puzzles in the “selected” Puzzle folder will be put in the hierarchical Puzzle menu.(Limit of thirty applies..any extras can be opened using the Open Puzzle.. command in the File Menu)
-Any Mod files in the “selected” Puzzle folder will be put in the hierarchical Sound menu.(Limit of thirty applies..any extras can be opened using the Open Sound.. command in the File Menu)
-There is help under the "?" menu and Balloon help as well.
-The "wait" cursor is actually a spinning globe. I guess that makes the Puzzler an environmentally friendly program.
-Live Long and Party Hard.
Shareware Notice:
The Puzzler is shareware, and I'm asking $14 for it. I feel that it is a quality piece of Mac II software, and as such it should be encouraged.
